Hiroyuki Suzuki

GLICC Director / Returnee Education Researcher

Mr. Suzuki is the representative of Study Extension Inc. He has more than 25 years of teaching experience, including teaching Japanese at a major Junior High prep school, as well as assisting international and returnee students. He is now involved in after-school learning support for private Junior and Senior High schools in Tokyo. At GLICC, he is in charge of general course management.

MacPaul Hirata

Academic & Creative Writing

Mr. Hirata earned a MA in Applied Linguistics & TESOL from the University of Leicester. He specializes in teaching essay writing, and assists our students of all levels with preparing for their exams. He has fifteen years of experience teaching in Japan, and is our longest resident teacher here at GLICC. He is currently living in Tokyo, and teaching at a local University.

Hannah Harris

Reading Interaction, Fiction & Poetry

Ms. Harris graduated with an Honours degree in English Literature from University College London, and obtained a Masters in Acting in 2016. She is an experienced teacher who specializes in Literature; specifically teaching Fiction, Poetry, and Writing to our students of all levels. She currently lives and works in London.

 

Alexander Dutson

Philosophy

Mr. Dutson is our resident expert of Philosophy. Having completed his facilitation with the Philosophy Foundation in London, he believes philosophy can help students make sense of new ideas, as well as foster the kind of critical, collaborative and imaginative mindset needed to grapple with complex challenges in the twenty-first century. He is an experienced teacher and co-author of the book “Thinking Experiments: Philosophy for Japanese High Schools.” Alex currently lives and works in the UK.

Changhyun Cho

Reasoning & Math

Mr. Cho holds both a Master of Science in Astronomy, as well as a Master of Arts in Physics & Astronomy, from Stony Brook University in New York. He is currently working on his Doctorate of Philosophy in Physics at NYU. He is our resident expert of Reasoning, and assists our Elementary students with Reasoning and Math to prepare them for their entrance exams.

Raffaela Kozar

Environmental Science, English & College Application Support

Ms. Kozar holds a BA in Environmental Analysis & Policy, as well as a Masters in International Affairs from Columbia. She is currently completing a PhD in Sustainability Science at the University of Tokyo. Raffaela takes care of a variety of English lessons, as well as College Application Support. She is an expert in all things environmental, and will be teaching our upcoming course in Environmental Science & Sustainability.

 

Shane Manefield

Science & Math

Mr. Manefield is a certified teacher with a Diploma in Education from the University of Technology, Sydney. He has over 20 years of experience teaching Math and Science to students from Elementary to High School. He has been assisting our Elementary students with Reasoning and Science, and is currently teaching at Tokyo Bay International School.

Ellen Brierley

English (Advanced, Fiction & Poetry)

Ms. Brierley holds a BSc in Politics and International Relations from the University of Bristol. She attended The British School in Tokyo, completing her A Levels and obtaining 36 points in IB. She supports a variety of levels at GLICC, including Elementary and Middle School students in their English studies. Ellen is currently studying Japanese at a language school in Tokyo.

Koara Yamamoto

ESL

Ms. Yamamoto completed her IB Diploma at Seisen International School in Tokyo,and then returned to Australia to study Psychology and Criminology at the University of Sydney. She takes care of our Elementary ESL students, as well as assists the administrative team with tasks around the office. She is currently living and working in Tokyo.
