SDGs: Environmental Science & Sustainability

As we look to the future, environmental issues and sustainability are at the forefront. How do we solve these problems? What can we do in our own lives that will contribute to a safer and more sustainable future for generations to come?

In this course, students will study not only environmental science and subjects like climate change, but also explore ways to improve things for future generations. An example lesson may be:

A Changing Climate

What is the Future of the Earth’s Climate?

In this unit students will explore data showing temperature changes over the past 120 years, and data illustrating climate trends over different time scales. Students will evaluate the information, and consider the limitations of conclusions based on it, via group discussion. Each unit will include a combination of projects and activities to help students fully understand the material and discover their own conclusions.

By completing this lesson students will be able to answer the following questions:

  • How has Earth's average temperature changed over the past 400,000 years?
  • How do scientists determine what the temperature was 400,000 years ago?
  • What makes scientists more confident in their predictions of future climates?

  • Approaching the topic of the environment is not only essential for future generations, but engaging for students. Facilitating discussion on the subject, as well as providing students the opportunity to learn through hands on projects, will improve students' creative thinking and collaboration skills.

Language Arts: Fiction Classics & Poetry

Understanding and interpreting English Literature is a difficult skill and one many students struggle with. Our Fiction Classics course will allow students the opportunity to openly discuss pieces of literature and poetry, in order to dissect and interpret them. Students will learn to hone their questioning skills, English comprehension, and creative thinking, as they dive into the nuances and wonders of classic literature.
